Client Background Info:

We may be biased, but for our money, Chicano Soul Food is some of the best Mexican food in San Diego. Chicano Soul Food is a socio-culinary project created by Sergio Garcia Manriquez, the owner of Dos Tierras, providing food education to the San Diego community and mobile catering since 2016.

Sergio and his team work out of the Sherman Heights Community Center to prepare then deliver a healthy and balanced menu with unique vegan options. Their specialty is guisado tacos, braised or stewed interpretations of old-world Mexico recipes from his family and local chiefs in Michoacán.

Sergio recently appeared on the Travel Channel’s hit show “The Zimmern List”.

Challenges:

Sergio’s GROWING BUSINESS was branching out into the catering and corporate event space. He wanted to DOCUMENT HIS APPROACH to Michoacán-style cuisine while providing a premium quality catering experience. His LEAN OPERATION was focused strictly on culinary education and food preparation––the IMPORTANCE OF CONTENT was not lost on Sergio, so he reached out to Oso Digital for collaboration.

  • Growing business
  • Needed to showcase the food to reach a wider audience
  • Does Not have the time or skillset to do it himself so he hire us.

Solutions:

The Chicano Soul Food staff/team and the sherman heights community center that he serves

  • Put faces and names to the people behind Chicano Soul Food and highlight their kitchen at the Sherman Heights Community Center. It was important to Sergio for his audience to know purchase of their food goes to supporting programing for the community in Sherman Heights.
  • Showcase Sergio’s dynamic menu of fresh and seasonal offerings.
  • Capture his team in action at a live event to promote Chicano Soulfood’s catering services.

Results:

Sergio now has high quality photos for his website and social media documenting the Chicano Soul Food team and his catering services in action at the Sherman Heights Community Center’s annual Dia De los Muertos fundraising event.
